Unemployment is a slow motion free-fall. It allows for endless summer days spent discovering inexpensive (preferably free) activities. On this fine afternoon Magnolia and I ate Vietnamese sandwiches and cupcakes in Dolores Park. Both were divine.

Birria From God

Birria is Mexican meat stew traditional served on festive religious occasions and weddings or in our cases for soul crushing hangovers. There was no room for error – my body required nourishment only available from a spicy goat filled concoction. Thankfully a dive that Evelyn suggested on 14th an S. Van Ness served the birria we so desperately needed.

Nothing quite like downing a bottle of authentic single malt Scotch while enduring a brutally cold San Francisco rooftop chill in the Mission. Evelyn and I weathered such conditions a few weeks back and in the lucid state that only Scotch can provide we decided to venture forth in search of grease soaked diner food at the Video Cafe. We ate steak and eggs and watched Quantum of Solace while surrounded by San Francisco’s finest.

The excursion ended with me downing a strip of bacon slathered in butter and dipped in maple syrup. Actually the evening ended the next morning when I awoke with cold sweats and a deep thirst for coca-cola.

Marin Headlands Walkabout

Well I am not sure how to describe this one. Basically an artwalk was organized at the Marin Headlands. A map was distributed that at first glance provided an overview of various locations where art installations would be. At second glance one realized that the points-of-interest were actually just normal omnipresent tourist oriented destinations scattered about the Headlands. After the fog of confusion was lifted yours truly and a semi-merry band of bastards walked around drinking whiskey, snacking and watching Pale Hoarse perform in an abandoned military bunker.

Hotel Vertigo

Hotel parties are magical events that temporarily suspend reality allowing for debaucherous behavior that would be frowned upon in any shared flat, apartment or multi-unit dwelling. There is a small band of San Franciscans who understand the need to manifest desire. A group simply known as Hotel Party. Without any valid source of income these adult hoodlums rent rooms and let what happens may.

The recent Hotel Party took place at Hotel Vertigo in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. Witness the birth of Robe Guy and the tame antics that followed a three-day weekend of baseball, underage flirting, substance abuse, drinking, and of course eating.
